Breitling heralds a new era for the Superocean

If you're currently looking for the Superocean collection high quality replica watches on the Breitling homepage, you'll only find the latest models that were recently launched as part of a massive launch. All older references - except for the Heritage Superocean model - are gone. Breitling thus clearly heralds a new era for this long-established Breitling line, as has the company's other major lines since Georges Kern took over as its new CEO. The new Superocean Automatic might be the coolest dive watch Breitling has ever made, but it’s definitely one of the funniest, with vibrant color changes and a new case material. There are also orange and green limited editions that surprised us.

It was a smart move by Breitling to introduce such a delightful and commercially valuable novelty. 28 new references, to be exact. Now that many competitor models are hard to come by, or come at a considerable additional cost, watch enthusiasts are looking for alternatives. Aside from a few smaller product launches (the Superocean Heritage 57 or a collaboration with Outerknown), Breitling's focus in recent years has clearly been on the relaunch of pilot watches. But the range of products around Surfer Squad (and Kelly Slater in particular) is constantly expanding.

After all, Breitling has been making dive watches since the 1950s. This summer, the luxury replica Watches company celebrated the launch of its latest Superocean Automatic collection in Biarritz, a trendy surfing spot on France's Atlantic coast. This is very different from all the versions of the past few decades. Breitling's design was inspired by the Superocean Slow Motion watches from 1970, specifically the reference 2005 Mk2. At the time, it followed a completely new approach to diving watches. There is no seconds hand, as it has no real value to the diver, but it does have a minute-based chronograph hand that takes an hour to complete a dial rotation. Hence the name "slow motion".

The hour markers are also changed from round to square, and are completely coated with SuperLumiNova luminous coating. So while the new Superocean models have unmistakable elements of the original dive watches of the 1960s and 1970s, they focus less on functionality and more on cool, fresh colors and materials.

The new Superocean is available in four sizes, three case materials and two straps. Men's models are available in 42, 44 and 46 mm. The 36mm women's style is more colorful. I would have liked another men's version in 40mm as it is one of the most worn sizes right now. But the 42mm model also fits surprisingly well on the wrist thanks to the rather flat case design at 12.56mm. The 46mm version is just 13.22mm thick.

Material In addition to the steel and steel gold models, Breitling also debuted a bronze watch, which certainly makes sense for a diving discount replica watches. The bronze tone of the scene is wonderful - a warm rose gold without being too shimmery. Bronze can sometimes appear a little rough and dirty. Even the inner minute ring is made of bronze. Breitling has chosen an alloy that is particularly resistant to corrosion so that the case does not develop a patina so quickly. Since the case is more susceptible to moisture than the minute track protected by the sapphire crystal, it would look silly if the outside was weathered while the inside was fresh and shiny. It will be interesting to see how the patina of the watch changes with time and frequent use. The Superocean Automatic Bronze comes on a chocolate brown or green rubber strap with a deployant clasp.

In addition to rubber, Breitling also offers a three-row metal bracelet for the new Superocean models. The folding clasp can be fine-tuned up to 15mm, which works for me. The bezel is scratch-resistant, inlaid with ceramic, and can only be adjusted in one direction, like a dive watch. Only on the 46mm version, the bezel is secured to the crown by a patented locking mechanism, which can be rotated to one or both sides if necessary.

Kelly Slater Limited Edition Kelly Slater is not only the best surfer in the world, but also an entrepreneur who has been part of the Breitling Surfers squad for many years. Two years ago, Slater designed the ECONYL yarn strap for Breitling's Superocean with his sustainable clothing brand "Outerknown". With the new Super Ocean series replica watches on sale, Slater was even allowed to participate in the development of his own version, in which personal stories from the surfer's life played a major role. Featuring an orange dial and an army green rubber strap. It's a rather idiosyncratic combination, but it works so well that this model is my personal highlight of the new collection.

Slater's father, who tragically passed away 20 years ago, probably thought so too. The watch was inspired by a watch his father wore while surfing - unfortunately the brand was unknown and it ceased to exist after Slater's father lost it while surfing, But it also has an orange dial and a green strap. Since then, Slater has also been known for "airbrushing" his surfboards with this color combination, as surfers call it.

Work The original Superocean Slow Motion is still powered by a modified Venus 188 movement with chronograph hands. The Caliber 17 of the new Superocean displays the hours, minutes and seconds and is a Sellita movement (from the Caliber SW200 series) based on the ETA2824 movement. The advantage is that the new model is rather flat, which has a positive effect on wearing comfort. The downside is that the power reserve is only around 38 hours, which is no longer a feat in today's world of luxury mechanical replica watches swiss.

Still, it’s amazing how quickly Breitling responds to the market and trends and launches new products in a very short period of time. This was unimaginable before. But today, Georges Kern stepped on the gas and led the way. Sometimes it only takes 6-8 months from idea to market. The new Superocean – especially the 36mm women’s watch – is sure to be a success, although its prices (from €4,400) are audacious for the simple three-hand Sellita movement.

Probably the toughest competition in this price segment is Tudor's Kenissi in-house movements. Still, strong marketing and a convincing aesthetic will encourage customers to buy the new Superocean. Indeed, Breitling offers an attractive alternative in the everyday watch segment, as many models from other manufacturers are difficult to come by – or come at astronomical secondary market prices. The 40mm version would be nice, but as already mentioned, the 42mm wears surprisingly well, and we’re still talking about a sports watch here rather than a dress watch that could also be a bit more masculine. It will also be exciting to see how the series develops. After all, Breitling has moved from classic tool watches to lifestyle products with its Superocean counterparts.
